Do you really need to clean your reusable capsules after every coffee? (Spoiler alert: yes, and here's why)
Adopting a reusable coffee capsule is already a big step towards more responsible consumption. But this eco-friendly action is only effective if it's accompanied by regular maintenance. Yet, too many consumers neglect the cleaning step, thinking that "it's not that big of a deal" or that "it can wait until tomorrow." Wrong. In this article, we explain why proper cleaning is not only essential for your health and your machine, but also for preserving the aromas of your coffee over time.
A great coffee starts with a clean capsule
Coffee residue, a clogged filter, rancid oils… that's the perfect recipe for ruining your morning espresso. A dirty capsule can alter the taste of your coffee from the very first brew. In just a few days, it can also develop bacteria invisible to the naked eye. The result: a questionable-tasting coffee and a spoiled pleasure.
Regular maintenance prolongs the lifespan of your capsules
Cafécolo capsules are made of high-quality stainless steel. With proper care, they can last for several years. However, without adequate cleaning, the perforations can become clogged, the seal can wear out prematurely, and residue can accumulate to the point of completely blocking extraction. A few seconds under running water after each use, and a thorough cleaning from time to time, are all it takes to prevent this.
A protected machine
What few people realize is that a poorly cleaned capsule can also damage your coffee machine. The accumulation of damp grounds causes leaks, buildup in the pipes, and even accelerated wear and tear on the mechanisms. Cleaning your capsules is also taking care of your equipment.
A matter of ecological common sense
The goal of a reusable capsule is to reduce waste. But if you have to buy new ones every three months because they deteriorate due to improper care, you're missing the environmental benefit. Simple, quick, and regular cleaning is therefore also a step towards protecting the planet.
How to properly clean your Cafécolo capsules?
After each coffee, open your capsule, empty the grounds (ideally onto your plants or into your compost!), then rinse with hot water, gently scrubbing with a small brush. Occasionally, soak it in a mixture of hot water and white vinegar to remove limescale deposits. And most importantly: dry it thoroughly before closing or storing it.
Cleaning your reusable capsules only takes a few seconds, but it makes all the difference. To continue enjoying great coffee day after day, while respecting the planet, make it a habit. At Cafécolo, we focus on sustainability, simplicity… and great coffee.
And you, when was the last time you cleaned your capsule? 😉
